ATTICA RAGE are pleased to announce that Lawrence O'Brien has joined as lead guitarist, following the recent departure of long-term guitarist Stevie Bell.

Lawrence, 22, is originally from Dunfermline, Fife and has been playing guitar since he was six years old. He teaches guitar and also performs in his own solo band project in Glasgow, where he is now based. He counts Jimi Hendrix, Paul Gilbert, Dimebag Darrell and Yngwie Malmsteen among his influences. Lawrence will make his live debut appearance with Attica Rage in May at the HRH Road Trip rock festival in Ibiza, Spain alongside Turisas, Graham Bonnet Band, Evil Scarecrow, Massive Wagons & others.

Attica Rage recently celebrated their 15 year anniversary, having formed in Glasgow in March 2003 (although the band name had existed previously in a different incarnation). Since 2008, the band has released four critically-acclaimed albums, along with singles, bonus tracks, videos and a feature-length live concert & documentary film. Reviews, blogs and airplay from the likes of Classic Rock, Metal Hammer, Planet Rock, Total Rock, Hard Rock Hell Radio as well as live TV appearances have all helped the band reach a wide-spread global audience. The core fans even have their own nickname – 'Clan Attica' – which includes fans with tattoos of the band's skull mascot.

Attica Rage have clocked up hundreds of shows on headline tours across the UK & Europe as well as opening for acts such as Black Label Society, Saxon, Testament, Iced Earth, Skindred and Iron Maiden's Steve Harris British Lion amongst others. Seasoned festival veterans, highlights over the years have included Bloodstock Open Air, Download, Hard Rock Hell, Hammerfest and High Voltage, sharing bills with titans such as Judas Priest, Slash, Anthrax, Slayer, Killing Joke and Down. Attica Rage also performed at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards show party, on a boat sailing along the Thames River in London and, more recently, headlined the official Iron Maiden Trooper Beer Party at the Hard Rock Cafe on the day the metal legends visited Glasgow on their Book of Shadows World Tour.

With Lawrence O'Brien joining the established line-up of drummer and founding member Richie Rage, his brother Jonny Parr on vocals and guitar and bassist Matthew Ward, Attica Rage are at the dawn of a new chapter in 2018. Fans should look out for tour dates later in the year while writing begins this summer on songs fora brand new album in 2019.

Photos of the new line-up can be found on the official website www.atticarage.com/band and Facebook page www.facebook.com/AtticaRage.

Thanks to all the Clan Attica, our family & friends - new & old - for coming along to guitarist Stevie Bell's final shows with Attica Rage at Bannerman's, Edinburgh and HRH Metal festival at O2 Academy Birmingham last weekend. They were immense and were a perfect finale for Bell to finish on a high!

Lastly, from all of us in Attica Rage - we want to thank Stevie Bell for his 11+ years service to the band as lead guitarist. We have shared so many highlights over the years and he has been an integral, valued member of the band. We all wish him well with his onward journey, wherever that may take him.

Here are some photos from last weekend (thanks to Neil Henderson, Mark Holloway, Suzanne McAleer & Nathan Whitehouse). You can also watch a clip of the very end of the set from HRH Metal on our Facebook page here.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM STEVIE BELL:

“Well folks, after 11 years of being the Attica Rage guitarist and almost 21 years since taking up the guitar in the first place, I'm hanging up my Jacksons to venture elsewhere in life. I have had thee best decade gigging and touring with the band, playing literally hundreds of gigs across dozens of cities throughout the UK and Europe. I also made some brothers for life in Jonny, Richie and Matthew. Shout out to Colin Walls and Colin Wilson too. As a fan of the band since 2004 (I didn't join until 2007!), I am beyond excited to hear what album #5 has in store for us all and I wish the lads the best of luck for the next chapter of their epic career. Sincere thank you to all of the fans, friends and family who have supported both myself and the band since I joined, as well as management and crew past and present. And of course, all the killer bands I got to share a night of live music with these past 11 years. Until our paths cross again...”

Stevie Bell joined the band in April 2007 in time to write and record guitar solos for Attica Rage’s debut album, Ruin Nation, released in 2008, and performed on three further albums: Road Dog, 88MPH and Warheads Ltd. He also wrote songs including ‘Altered Reality’ and fan-favourite ‘Ashamed’ and since joining, has played over 200 hundred live shows with the band on headline tours and at festivals across the UK and Europe.

Stevie will play his final shows with Attica Rage at Bannerman’s in Edinburgh on Friday 16 February and the HRH Metal festival at the Birmingham 02 Academy on Sunday 18 February. Tickets are on sale at Tickets Scotland and HRHMetal.com.

Attica Rage have started writing songs for a new album with production scheduled for summer and a likely release date later in the year. They will also be performing at the HRH Road Trip rock festival in Ibiza, Spain in May with a new lead guitarist in the ranks.

Singer Jonny Parr adds:

“Bell has been a huge part of Attica Rage and we will all miss him immensely. He is much more than just the band’s guitarist - he’s a great friend and a brother and we’ve played some huge shows and shared amazing experiences together. I don’t think we ever imagined a version of the band without him. However, we totally respect his decision. The Attica machine is rolling ahead as ever, with plans for a new album and a whole new chapter. But, all of that is for another day. For now, we just want to make sure Stevie has the best farewell send-off celebration that he deserves and we hope our fans & friends can make it along to one of his two final shows in February - let him bow out on a total high!”
